Paracyclops fiersi sp. nov. (Copepoda, Cyclopoida, Cyclopidae), a new freshwater cyclopoid from north-western Mexico

Abstract Several individuals of free-living copepods were found in tap water the Unidad Académica Mazatlán (Instituto de Ciencias del Mar y Limnología). These turned out to belong a new species freshwater genus Paracyclops. Paracyclops poppei , P. hirsutus and chiltoni only reported Mexican ecosystems, record fiersi sp. nov. is fourth confirmed from Mexico. The seems be related hardingi bromeliacola . differs ornamentation female antennary coxobasis, posterior, subdistal, medial spinules on coxa first–fourth leg both sexes. city Mazatlan supplied with groundwater an aquifer Presidio River (south Mazatlan), most probably distributed southern state Sinaloa (north-western Mexico).
